Now that spring is just around the corner, I finally decided to purchase a bicycle for both exercise and convenience. I used to ride on a Specialized Venge Expert back when I lived in Las Vegas, but didn’t bring it with me when I moved to Tokyo last year. After some shopping around, I settled for a TOYKOBIKE SPORT9s. It’s a great bicycle for getting around the city and causal exercising. Most importantly, it’s not super expensive and I don’t mind if it gets wet from a surprise rainstorm. I do miss my Specialized though, so hopefully I’ll figure out a way to bring it back to Tokyo next time I’m in the USA.

I live close to the Imperial Palace and recently discovered that the streets are blocked for cars every Sunday. Basically, the area around the Imperial Palace becomes a cyclist’s paradise once a week. It’s difficult to find a long stretch of road for cycling in Minato-ku, so I’m glad I found out about this. If you’re in Tokyo, this is a great way to get some exercise on the weekend – there are even free rental bikes for tourists and other people who don’t own a bicycle.
