Vintage B3 Organ is a Hammond B3 emulation plugin, which ships with MainStage 3 and Logic Pro X. It’s a great sounding virtual instrument, and emulates many Hammond B3 physical traits as well — such as the lack of a sustain pedal. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to enable sustain in the Virtual B3 Organ plugin.

By default, the sustain pedal is mapped to control the Leslie’s rotor speed. Once that mapping is undone, the sustain pedal reverts back to operating like a normal sustain pedal.

First, go to the ROTOR CABINET tab in Vintage B3 Organ’s GUI. As you can see in the screenshot below, “SusPdl Temp” is mapped to SPEED MIDI CONTROL.

Change this setting to anything else, and you’ll regain the ability to sustain B3 organ patches. I typically like to use mod wheel to control the rotor speed, but there are other options as well.

If you decide to choose the mod wheel, make sure CC#1 isn’t filtered out in your channel strip’s MIDI input settings.
